Charity marathon in Barcelona 2020

As a city of sport, art and culture, Barcelona is home to people of all kinds. And so it is the ideal place for my next marathon, which I run again for a good cause. On March 15, 2020 I run the 42 kilometers in Barcelona for blind and severely visually impaired children and teenagers in Brazil. The donations will benefit the Fernanda Bianchini Association’s world-renowned ballet school for the blind, which has been offering children and young people new opportunities for an independent life for 25 years.

NOTE: Betterplace.org suggests an additional amount for the platform when donating. You don’t have to donate anything here and can click on “Change amount” and set it to 0 Euro. This amount does not go to the charity and Betterplace.org deducts a small amount from every donation anyway.

About the charity

The idea of ballet lessons for the blind and visually impaired was born in 1995. At that time the founder Fernanda was still a teenager. Motivated by the voluntary work of her parents at a school for the blind in São Paulo, she followed the request of one of the nuns. She gave her first hour of ballet lessons and quickly learned that she had to adapt her learning methods a little.

Today, almost 25 years later, Fernanda has developed her own teaching method, which is already being used in several Brazilian cities. She is the founder of Associação Fernanda Bianchini and the only professional company in the world where all ballerinas are blind. Her work today does not only cover the leadership and further development of the NGO, but through lectures and projects she is also a great driver of inclusion.

Today there are already 400 children and young people who receive free lessons and sometimes the only meal of the day in their ballet school. Of these, 60% are blind and severely visually impaired, 30% with other disabilities and 10% without any disability. Fernanda firmly believes that inclusion begins where one sits on the other’s chair and perceives his world.

Run the marathon in Barcelona 2020!

Since I can think, I have been on the move. Since 2013 I have discovered long-distance running and since 2016 I have been running marathons for a good cause. I collect donations for social projects that are particularly close to my heart, because as a visually impaired person I want to bring more inclusion and inspiration into this world.

The last marathon I ran in 2018 in Düsseldorf for a good cause and collected together with 16 other runners in 4 relay marathons nearly 10.000 Euro for the non-profit association Favela Education. I ran the whole length of a little more than 42 kilometres and you can do it too! If you want to run with me or in a team in Barcelona, you can register here for the Barcelona Marathon 2020.

About LifeAce

LifeAce is the largest non-profit sports and music event series for children and young people in Germany and creates awareness for inclusion and stronger cohesion in society.

The big Life Ace kick-off event will take place on 10 May 2020 on the site of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Zeche Zollverein in Essen with 20,000 people. Half of the children and young people taking part suffer from chronic illnesses or are in a difficult life situation.

As LifeAce ambassador and speaker I am very happy to support such a great project and the great founders Julia Stirner and Amir Abdou on this day and to accompany them on their way.
